A warm welcome to this splendid Friday and to the joyful fanfare of October! Much like the sentiment echoed by Anne, I too find comfort in the fact that we are blessed to experience the tranquil beauty of Octobers.
This year, on the inaugural day of October, Kaitlyn got an early headstart to fetch our Halloween adornments, turning our humble abode from the epitome of fall to an eerie autumn wonderland. The sheer thrill she emanates from the changing seasons is delightful! Friendly heads-up, these particular Halloween decorations continue to offer splendid value for money.
The day ahead looks promising with a park playdate with comrades, a visit from my dear mum, soccer games for the girls followed by a thrilling football match for the rest of us! Moreover, the weather god has been gracious, making the day even more enjoyable! However, before we immerse ourselves in these joys, let’s plunge headfirst into our fascinating Autumn Friday Five!
ONE: Your Latest Amazon Favourites
Reflecting over the legion of this month’s favorites, it’s amusing to notice a few unfamiliar items. These standouts have only gained popularity because David extended his expertise in areas of yard management, home improvement, and energy supervision by sharing some phenomenal product reviews. You may find these reviews in my storefront. The four-gallon battery-operated backpack sprayer and the Emporia Home Energy Monitor accompanied by the Sense Energy Monitor continue to be top picks, along with the artistic sourdough (spiral edition), faux fall mums, and the sturdy stainless-steel 16 oz. Lunch Thermos.
TWO: Romantic Getaway at Greenville – The Late Goat Experience
David and I enjoyed a sumptuous dinner date this past week at the newly renovated Lazy Goat. Known for its exotic location by the side of Reedy River and the Swamp Rabbit Trail, the place offers top-class people watching. The interior decor is alluring. To top it off, the staff’s service is unmatchable. Even though the food presented was visually appealing, the taste only managed to earn a seven on ten. The truffle fries were crispy but required a touch more salt and a different dip. The lamb skewers were perfectly cooked and utterly satiating, but the additional dishes were mediocre at best. However, the malbec was simply splendid.
THREE: My Autumn Garden
My autumn garden is admittedly a relaxed affair – a euphemistic way of defining my lackadaisical efforts, I guess? I uprooted all the tired summer plants, added some fresh soil, tilled the ground, and sowed some seeds just this past weekend. I chose carrots, broccoli, cabbage, kale, parsley, dill, sage, thyme, and oregano. Whether or not they spring to life, only time will tell. Now I’m considering planting garlic as well but need to figure out a spot for it.
FOUR: The Pioneer Woman Pot Roast
I whipped up this pot roast recipe this week and it was a smashing hit! While it’s not my regular weekday meals, it’d be an ideal choice for a grand family feast on a lazy Sunday. The recipe is straightforward but requires a good four hours of slow cooking. It leaves your home with an intoxicating aroma of a hearty meal. This was perfectly complemented with my Instant Pot whipped potatoes, to David’s particular delight. Nothing beats the classic combo of meat and potatoes.
FIVE: A Fresh Start for Duck & Nugget
A petite surprise occurred this week when a friend, a chicken expert, confirmed my suspicions (though living in denial) about Duck & Nugget, – they are definitely roosters. I discovered a great potential home for them when another friend informed me of a kind-hearted couple who own a vast 50-acre property. This weekend, we will pass on the roosters to them, ensuring they are well taken care of – it’s a bittersweet farewell, to say the least.
Thanks for accompanying this week’s Friday journey. Yearn for your weekend to overflow with cherishable moments! <3
