A cheerful welcome to this glorious Friday and a toast to the splendid times brought by October! Paraphrasing Anne couldn’t be more fitting for the wonder of this season: How delightful to exist in a realm where Octobers bloom!
On the first day of this enchanting month, Kaitlyn was so excited that she set an alarm to rise early. She couldn’t wait to dip into our Halloween box and transform our warm autumn abode into a charmingly eerie fall sanctuary. Her zest for the changing seasons is contagiously heartening! Here’s a handy tip – these gems are the ultimate value for money when it comes to Halloween decoration.
Our day is filled with positively engaging engagements – a much-anticipated park meetup with friends, my mother’s visit, the girls’ ardently awaited soccer matches, rounds of immersive football games, and all under an exceptionally cheerful weather. Without further ado, let’s plunge into this week’s Fabulous Five!
ONE: September Bestsellers from Amazon
Reflecting on this list brings a chuckle as it may catch you off-guard to see a few items straying from my conventional expertise. The reason is David, who recently contributed product reviews within his niche areas (garden, household enhancement, energy supervision) and apparently, you find them useful. You can check them out in my online store.
* 4-Gallon Battery-Operated Backpack Sprayer
* Emporia and Sense Home Energy Monitors
* Artificial Autumn Chrysanthemums
* Gourmet Sourdough (spiral-bound)
* Stainless Steel 16-ounce Lunch Flask
TWO: Romantic Getaway in Greenville – The Lazy Goat
David and I had a delightful dinner date at the recently revamped Lazy Goat last week. The location is superb, bordering the Reedy River and the Swamp Rabbit Trail – an perfect spot for people-watching. With a splendid indoor ambiance and impeccable staff, it was a great experience. While the food was visually appealing, I’d give it a 7 out of 10. The truffle fries were desirably crunchy but could have used more seasoning and a different sauce. However, the lamb skewers were perfectly cooked and absolutely mouthwatering. Despite other dishes being just adequate, I will not be repeating my order. The malbec, though, was a pleasant surprise.
THREE: Autumn Garden
I have been quite ambivalent about my autumn garden. A more prim and proper way to say I have not put my 100% effort into it, isn’t it? With summer plants faded, I added fresh soil and tilled it, sowing the seeds only last weekend. Carrots, broccoli, cabbage, kale, parsley, dill, sage, thyme, and oregano now lay in waiting. The question is: will they grow? Time is our test!
What’s on your fall garden list? I aim to grow some garlic but need a suitable spot for it. Additionally, I’m considering reviving my indoor herb garden soon.
FOUR: The Pioneer Woman’s Pot Roast Recipe
This week saw me cooking the Pioneer Woman’s pot roast, which turned out to be a star dish! Although not your typical weekday meal, it would be a fabulous centerpiece for Sunday family dinners. It’s a straightforward recipe needing a good four hours to cook gently in the oven (adding an appetizing aroma to your home). I teamed it with mashed potatoes made in an Instant Pot, and David seemed especially pleased with this meal. A meat-and-potatoes combo: what’s not enjoyable?
FIVE: Farewell to Duck & Nugget
This week a poultry-savvy friend confirmed my suspicions (that I was trying to ignore): Duck & Nugget are indeed roosters. The telltale signs being the growth of a spur, the tail feathers curving over, and yes, they’ve started crowing. Also, Duck is becoming more protective of his flock (as nature intends). Then, a timely intervention found a potential new home for my roosters. This gentleman who, along with his wife, possesses a 50-acre property sheltering goats, cows, and chickens. It is decided that the roosters will be rehomed with him over the weekend. It was an emotional decision to let go, but knowing it’s best for them made it easier.
Many thanks for your virtual company today. Here’s wishing you a weekend brimming with happiness! <3
